Do You Want Help?

Do you want help?

In the Gospel of John, we find the Lord having a conversation with an impotent man.  This man had been in a needy condition for thirty-eight years. The Lord asks this man who is at the pool of Bethesda; “…Wilt thou be made whole?” John 5:6.

It seems like a ridiculous question, because the pool of Bethesda was a place of miracles.  He obviously believed he could be healed, or he wouldn’t have been there.  He had seen miracles take place in others’ lives. Others had gotten into the pool and were healed.

But during this dialogue, we find the Lord asking a simple question that required a yes or no answer. The response wasn’t an answer to the question.  The response was an excuse on why he hadn’t been healed.  Jn. 5:7 “…Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.”

The Lord knew the situation he was facing, and the Lord knew the obstacles. This man was looking at all the reasons why the miracles were not for him, but the miracle giver was standing before him.  The Lord doesn’t need us to make excuses about why the miraculous is not taking place, we just need to trust him for the miraculous.  “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God MUST BELIEVE that he is, and that HE IS a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” Hebrews 11:6. What miracle is it that you need today? Don’t make excuses… Trust the one who can overcome every obstacle that we face!

A Season of Celebration or Sorrow

For most, the holiday season is a time of excitement, joy, and anticipation. It is a time to celebrate the greatest Gift that has ever been given – The Lord Jesus Christ. We enjoy the way that the world cannot escape the reminder of the babe in a manger.  We hear the songs in the stores, malls, restaurants, and on the radio; Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, Hark the Harold Angels Sing… Jesus, for the believer, is the focal point of the season!

But for some, this time of year is a sorrowful time. It is a time of remembering what used to be… There is an empty place at the table, a bedroom is vacant, a home is quiet, and the loneliness is the loudest thing you hear. You see others laughing and smiling, and you remember when you would have joined in. You hear the sweet songs of Christmas, but they no longer remind you of the blessings you have received and the hope you now have – it reminds you of what you have lost.

Let me encourage you today! In Matthew 28:20, the Lord himself promised “…and, lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAY, even to the end of the world. Amen”. In Hebrews 13:5 He said, “…I will NEVER LEAVE THEE, NOR FORSAKE THEE”.

Realize that even during the times of shadows in our lives, that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised His presence.  Look for Him to fill the empty place in your heart and life.  Jesus loves you and cares about you.  Christ makes this a SEASON OF CELEBRATION!

In Matthew 10, we find the list of the twelve Apostles.  It is with these men, that the Lord is going to establish and perpetuate His ministry.  These twelve apostles are men that will take the teaching, training and truths that the Lord imparts to them to get the Gospel to the regions beyond.

Judas will be replaced by Matthias in Acts 1; the Apostle Paul will be saved in Acts 9 becoming the Apostle “...born out of due time.”  These men...were chosen for a mighty job.  God’s purpose and God’s plan always includes God’s people.  May we be yielded to the leading of the Lord in our daily lives.

God has a purpose for each of us today!
